I Never Got What I Wanted to See

I’ve looked down the choices I can remember making,

turned into the Terminator at the mention of what I become

each time I feel like running one down.

The thing is,

like the hare from “The Tortoise and the Hare”

I always catch up to myself again,

a race that earned me the gold medal in learning how to wear

whatever instinct I had to run away from harm

on my shoulder where my mind could always catch up to it,

and from that resistance, become a kind of John Connor

who runs better than anybody,

so yeah, I guess you could say I learned to be obvious

in the sense that “What you see is what you get.”

But I never got what I wanted to see.
